IBE is proud to announce Jerry Gilbert, charter member and 2008 inaugural Fellow, has been named Provost of Mississippi State University. The institute congratulates Dr Gilbert and looks forward many more years of leadership and innovation.

IBE has received conference support from the NSF to host technical sessions on how biological engineering can address the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges. The focus will be on carbon dioxide sequestration and on providing access to clean drinking water.  Experts in these areas will present a broad perspective on the challenges and how they can be addressed.

Videos of the sessions will be made and posted on the internet. Articles on these grand challenges also will be submitted for review for publication in the Journal of Biological Engineering.
